Weekend Events: April 27-April 29

  • The Ceramics studio in the School of Art & Design will host its annual spring ceramics sale at the Creative Arts Center April 27 through April 29. Work by WVU students and faculty will be featured at the sale, including porcelain that was created by WVU students during their involvement in the College's international program at the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute in China, according to a news release from the university. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the ceramics program, student travel, student scholarships and study in China, officials said. The sale will take place in the Douglas O. Blaney Lobby at the from entrance of the CAC and the hours of the sale will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Friday, April 27:

Harrison County:

  • "Midnight Madness" Lock-In and Youth Event will be held at the YMCA in Clarksburg. The event will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight and is open to kids in sixth through twelfth grade. Tickets are $12 at the door or $7 for tickets ordered before midnight on April 26. A limited number of tickets are available at no charge and will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. The event will feature a three on three basketball tournament, pool party, food, Mario Cart Wii tournament. Marion County:

  • Relay for Life fundraising supper presented by 'Rainbows of Hope' Relay for Life Team will be held at First United Methodist Church in Mannington. The supper will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The menu will include soup beans, cornbread, coleslaw, dessert and drinks. Cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 6 and under. Tickets will be available at the door and carry out will also be available. All proceeds will go to American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. For more information, call 304-986-2976.

Monongalia County:

  • Tate Music Group Artist Gage performance will be held at Fat Daddy's Bar and Grill in Morgantown. The event will start at 10 a.m. Gage will be performing songs from the album, ‘Every Time it Rains'.

Saturday, April 28:

Harrison County:

  • AARP will host a free "Fight Fraud, Shred Instead" recycling event for North Central West Virginia residents in the Kroger parking lot on Emily Drive in Clarksburg. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is being held for residents to safely and securely dispose of sensitive documents.
  • Donate an Instrument and Help a Needy Child event will be held at the Meadowbrook Mall. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will be set up at the charity booth near Marshalls. You may receive a tax deduction for your monetary or instrument donation.

Marion County:

  • MonValley Celebration of Mission event will be held at Middletown Mall. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Musical groups will be held throughout the day. A Kid Karnival, food, flowers, a silent auction and more.
  • North Marion dinner and concert show will be held at North Marion High School. The event will be fro 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A spaghetti dinner will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at North Marion cafeteria. Cost for the dinner is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Take out will be available and will be ready between 5 and 5:30 p.m. The concert show will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the North Marion Auditorium. Concert tickets will be $7.   • Women's Conference featuring Carol Kent will be held at Trinity Assembly of God in Fairmont. The conference will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $10 event fee which includes lunch. To register, call 304-363-8237 or visit http://wovenministries.blogspot.com for more information.
  • "Hats for Hugs" event will be held in Lambert Hall at St. Peters Catholic Church in Fairmont. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and lunch will be provided for all participants. The cost is $15 for a kit with yarn and a pattern of your choice. All donations will go to the American Cancer Society.
  • The Marion County Public Library in Fairmont will celebrate its annual Civil War Heritage Day. The event will feature displays, food, music and activities beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting throughout the day. Special presentations will be offered to commemorate famous women of the Civil War Era. Programs begin at 11 a.m. All programs will include question-and-answer sessions and are free and open to the public. Refreshments will also be offered.
  • American Cancer Society Relay for Life Elimination Dinner will be held at the Mannington Moose Lodge in Mannington. Social hour will start at 3 p.m. with dinner to follow. Dinner will wrap up with hottest band in the are, The Davisson Brothers, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. For tickets, call 304-986-9814.

Monongalia County:

  • Impact EARTH & Earth Day 5K/10K run or walk will be held at Hazel Ruby McQuanin Park in Morgantown. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Along with the run or walk, the event will also feature a community clean-up, visit the environmental exhibit booths. Food and music will also be included.
  • Bird walk will be held at the West Virginia Botanic Garden. The walk will be from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Participants should meet in the lower parking lot at 7 a.m. Participants should bring their own binoculars. For more information and directions, visit www.wvbg.org.
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities of Morgantown 5K Red Shoe run will be held at Decker's Creek Trail at Marilla Park in Sabraton. The event will start at 9 a.m. Food, entertainment and giveaways will also be featured at the event. All proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Randolph County:

  • Ramp and Rails Festival will be held at Town Square Historic Rail Yard in Elkins. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ramp food vendors, arts and crafts and live music will be featured. One hour train rides will also be offered on the New Tygart Flyer. The rides will start at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person.

Upshur County:

  • 2012 Duck Dialysis rubber ducky river race will be held in Buckhannon. The race will begin at 11 a.m. The race will take place at the Binky Poundstone Memorial Riverwalk located near West Virginia Wesleyan College. Ducks are $5. Games, concessions and activities for all ages will be available. Proceeds will benefit Ken Samples, 34, of Buckhannon who was diagnosed with ESRD and is waiting for a kidney transplant. Lewis County:

  • Autism Awareness Day will be held at Jane Lew City Park. The event will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event will feature Facing 3 for live entertainment, as well as 1376 Riders Group, Moonstruck Photography, Sparkling Divas, Dog Show, Face Painting, Bouncy House, Games Sensory Booths, concession and much more.

Monongalia County:

  • Federal Mine No.3 memorial service will be held at Friendship Baptist Church in Monongalia County. The event will start at 2 p.m. Everettville Historical Association will sponsor the memorial service for the Federal No. miners. There will be historical displays on site and refreshments will also be available. The event is open to the public. Friendship Baptist Church is location on Pickhandle Hill Road in Everettville.
  • Wetland and amphibian walk will be held at the West Virginia Botanic Garden. The walk will start at 2 p.m. Visit http://www.wvbg.org/for more information and directions.
  • Spring 2012 Women's Extravaganza will be held at the Mylan Park Expo Center in Morgantown. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person and the first 50 women will receive a free gift. Over 75 vendors will be selling their products and services.   • Sunnyside 5K Run and Walk will be held at the Caperton Rail Trail. The event will start at 10 a.m. at the Seneca Center Parking Lot next to the 6th Street Entrance to the rail trail. The first 50 participants will receive a Sunnyside Up T-shirt. The event will benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Morgantown.
