The Nottingham Irish Golf Society runs an annual golf tour to Ireland and during a recent visit to Mayo the society made the presentation to Mayo General Hospital.

On a previous golfing trip to Mayo, Padraic was unable to avail of dialysis in Mayo and had to travel to Galway to be dialysed. Subsequently the society contacted the hospital and offered to fund dialysis machines in order to ensure that patients with kidney disease visiting Mayo could have access to dialysis locally.

Charlie Meehan, General Manager of Mayo General Hospital accepted the presentation from the Nottingham Irish Golf Society. He said, “The Renal Dialysis Unit at Mayo General Hospital is currently being upgraded and expanded and I welcome this very generous donation. The newly expanded unit is being developed to ensure that we meet the current demand for services locally and that patients will no longer have to travel to Galway for services. This new development will enable Mayo General Hospital to offer dialysis to patients visiting county Mayo.

“We will erect a plaque in memory of Mr Sweeney at the new unit when it opens and it will be a permanent reminder of the wonderful generosity of Mr Sweeney’s family, friends and the members of the Nottingham Irish Golf Society”.
