| MMWR: CRE has now spread throughout the United States but in most areas they remain relatively uncommon; about 4% of acute-care hospitals and 18% of long-term acute-care hospitals reported at least one CRE to the National Healthcare Safety Network in the first 6 months of 2012. Nearly all patients with CRE were currently or recently treated in a health-care setting. However, CRE could spread into the community among otherwise healthy persons. |
