Waive taxes on dialysis machines – Doctor to gov't - Citifmonline PDF Print

Medical officer in charge of the police hospital dialysis centre, DSP Dr. Dominic Kumashie is appealing to government to consider waiving taxes on dialysis machines.

According to him, this will make treating patients suffering from kidney problems much easier and faster.

Some patients either refuse to go for regular kidney dialysis or do not start at all due to the high cost involved.

Speaking to Citi News, to mark the World Kidney Day celebration DSP,Dr. Dominic Kumashie asked government to subsidise the fees so every patient can have access to medical care.

“A patient will have to pay almost 600 cedis every week so that comes to 2,400 every month and that is minus certain medications so if you do the mark it comes 300,00 ghana cedis a month and that is huge. What we advocate is for government to subsidise their treatment.”

Dr. Kumashie explained the high cost involved in treating kidney cases is as a result of the consumables used.

” Once you are done with a patient doing dialysis, we discard all those consumables and that is what really accounts for the cost of the treatment so if taxes can be waived on those things , …we can get them into the country at a near free taxation rate”
