The national company that operates WCA Hospital’s dialysis center is planning a $1 million upgrade.

Bronx Dialysis Center, an affiliate of DaVita Healthcare Partners Inc., has filed plans with the state Department of Health for a major renovation at the Jamestown site, housed on the fourth floor of the Foote Avenue hospital.

The company took over operation of the 18-station dialysis center two years ago.

Plans for the renovation call for reworking the existing dialysis treatment stations, exam rooms, staff lounge, offices and restrooms. The renovations will allow more up-to-date techniques at the clinic, providing improved service capabilities and efficiencies to better serve patients.

Bronx Dialysis is operated by Knickerbocker Dialysis Inc., which operates 28 chronic renal dialysis facilities across New York, including seven other sites in Western New York. An eighth site is now under development in Buffalo, its first downtown site, where the company plans to spend $1.9 million to build a 13-station center.

The renovation at WCA follows investments in other local operations, including a $310,226 renovation at Suburban Dialysis Center on Maple Road.

Construction, which first requires a limited review by DOH officials, will take 24 weeks to complete.
