Mettur GH gets dialysis unit - The Hindu PDF Print

The long pending demand of the residents of Mettur town and the surrounding areas was met with the commissioning of a new haemodialysis unit at the Government Headquarters Hospital, Mettur, on Friday.

Cost

The new unit set up at on outlay of Rs. 20 lakh will have two dialysis machines. A spacious room at the GH has been renovated to set up the unit.

N. Vijayalakshmi, Joint Director of Health Services, inaugurated the new facility at a brief function held in the hospital in the presence of K. Senthilkumar, Superintendent of the Mettur Government Health Quarters Hospital. The Mettur GH is only the second government hospital in Salem district to get haemodialysis unit, besides the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Hospital.

With the two machines, six patients can undergo dialysis sitting per day and they will be covered under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme.

Dialysis sittings

Hospital sources said that a renal failure patient has to take 10 to 12 dialysis sittings per month, spending about Rs. 3,000 per sitting in private hospitals.
