Three children's hospitals in the state — U-M C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, Children's Hospital of Michigan and Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids — ranked nationally for several pediatric specialties.

The rankings are meant to help patients with life-threatening or rare conditions identify hospitals that excel in treating the most difficult cases, U.S. News and World Reports said. The Best Hospitals includes "consumer-friendly data and information on nearly 5,000 medical centers nationwide." You can search hospitals at http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals.

No Michigan hospitals made the nationwide top 15 honor roll. To get on that list, hospitals needed very high scores in at least six specialties. The best hospitals in the U.S. are Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
